The Nuremberg Trials formed a new basis for war crime trials throughout the world – the concept of a fair trial – no matter the crime. Not only did it up 24 guilty Nazis behind bars, the trials changed the way that legislators and the people look at law. Later, documents such as the Principles of International Law Recognized in the Charter of the Nürnberg Tribunal and in the Judgement of the Tribunal (1950), the Universal Declaration of Human Rights (1948) and others were based on the conclusions and lessons drawn from the trials. The trials will remain forever to be a leading example of what justice should be about.
